System.InvalidCastException: Return argument has an invalid type.

I’m working in a team that automatized measurement to characterize chips. Our environment is write in Python and we build drivers for each equipment.
Today I have trouble with an Tektronix Logic Analyzer (TLA7012). Tektronix give a DLL write in .NET to access to the equipment (TlaNetInterfaces.dll) and examples in C++, C# or VB but not in Python.

We began to access using Ethernet with success, but when we use a method that return a .NET reference we have an error. The same code has been built with Labview without problem.

Here my code:

The last line of this code give me this error:
System.InvalidCastException: Return argument has an invalid type.

I try to convert the value return, but without success, I always have this error, like .NET module in python don’t support a reference return from a method.
If I can get this reference I can access to all other part of the equipment for example running an acquisition, but actually it’s not possible.

Do you have an idea where is the problem?

I had the same problem with a type with no namespace. Here are the genericutil changes that solved it.

Due to EmptyArray that doesn't have a namespace (null), i changed Register in genericutil do support this.

Hi,

I can use pythonnet under python however when I import the clr under ipython or start a ipython session from with a python shell I get the following error.

I have included the stack trace for the latter - see below.

I have only a couple of months python experience so any help would be appreciated.

When using python for .net from Openoffice, a crash occurs on import clr.
The python module is called by "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\program\soffice.exe" -nologo "vnd.sun.star.script:module.py$fonc?language=Python&location=user"

The module.py is in the user directory : C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\Scripts.
It contains :

PythonEngine.Initialize() failed when anonymous type found in referenced assembly. In method GenericUtil.Register(Type t) there is no test for types which t.Namespace is null. When t.Namespace is null attempt to get it from dictionary 'maping' failed with message "Value cannot be null". Anonymous types are declared e.g. in Autofac.dll (wide use IoC container). Simple correction is just check if t.Namespace is null and then don`t process that type.

Stack corruption

I'm using python.net heavily in my server/client project

I found Stack buffer overflow exception OR stack corruption exception is caused when python script throws an exception, which is caught by CLR code especially when GC is collecting its own objects.
I think this problem is caused when allocated objects are unwinded by CLR engine.
(threw in CLR GC Collection/GC Security Cookie Check)

I found problem this 2 months ago, been struggling to solve this problem, because it happens rarely, randomly when GC is collecting objects
I solved this problem via removing all of pythonexception throwing code from PythonEngine, changed to return parameters to null

Hope you have better solution for solve this problem :)
