Code Reads
Have you ever written a piece of code, and wanted someone to give it a second look and a second opinion? Had your team start using a new web technology, and wanted someone to hold your hand as you work through the first few weeks?
I'm here to help. I'm offering a new product/service, the Code Read — you send me a piece (small or large) of your company's codebase, and I'll read through it with an eye towards correctness, code organization and style, common security flaws, patterns, and clarity. When finished, you'll receive a beautiful technical review document full of notes, examples, concerns, and ideas for improvement.
Sounds nice, eh? Much easier, cleaner and quicker to distill the recommendations of a thorough review, instead of the complex and high-touch process of hiring and trying to manage a consultant. And you'll wind up with a document that can be shared among the team.

I offer three different sizes of Code Read:
Small: A specific component, small library, or feature of your project.
Medium: A comprehensive look at a particular aspect of your webapp. This could be a new JS/MVC frontend, your custom UI framework, or the changes in a major new release.
Large: Your entire app, soup to nuts. (Within reason. 10 million LOC codebases need not apply).
Naturally, I'll be best equipped to help with Backbone.js, or CoffeeScript apps, components that use Underscore.js, Rails applications, Node.js projects, Ruby and JavaScript libraries ... but I'm looking forward to venturing into unfamiliar turf as well.
If you're interested, what I'll need from you is:
A fresh copy of (or access to) the codebase.
A brief writeup of your application or library, and its scope and goals. A list of the issues that you're wrestling with, and the questions that you want answered.
Access to the prototype or development server, if applicable.
